2300 - Q. Which type of stylus does the 2300 cartridge have currently?
Answer:
The stylus profile supplier was changed in around 2015, because Gyger
were no longer able to supply the G2 profile in the exact dimensions we
required. We therefore switched to a different supplier who
makes a profile almost identical. As such, we are not able to describe it as a Gyger 2,
and have given it the generic name of “nude elliptical”. It has the
same super elliptical dimensions as the Gyger, which itself is not
strictly a line contact diamond (for that you need the Gyger S), but
rather a super elliptical with a 6 um playing radius. Under the
microscope, on paper and during measurements, the new profile is as
close to the Gyger 2 as we could get. Technically the Van Den
Hul or Gyger profile
is a line contact one, although not quite as extreme as a micro ridge, for instance.
