Q. What were the specifications of Excel & Excel GR?

The Goldring Excel was a true audiophile cartridge, designed to compete with the very best moving coil models of that time.  Hand built and finished with a superbly crafted rosewood front piece and aluminium side plates, the Excel's ultra-rigid body had two aluminium sections to clamp the main pole structure ensuring there was no movement which could destroy subtle information.  As with other acclaimed Goldring pick-up cartridges, the pole-shoe design together with the use of a Neodymium magnet gave a highly efficient magnetic circuit.

The Excel used a Van den Hul 1 stylus and was noted for it's extraordinary detail retrieval and smooth highly extended frequency response.

The Excel GS was fitted with a Gyger S diamond which is shaped as closely as is safely possible to the original cutting stylus, and was highly polished to ensure fine tracking ability.

Both cartridges represented the very best in British audio technology and design standard at that time.
